Up to this day, it is a challenge for traditional methods to clean groundwater and to inhibit the spread of water pollution with perfluorinated compounds. The main problem is strong molecular compound of all poly- and perflourinated varieties. Existing technologies use to reduce these like In-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) and several ways of organic sanitation cannot remove the contaminants.
For the sanitation of groundwater from PFC contamination methods like Active-carbon absorption, Ion exchange, coagulation, membrane-methods have predominantly been deployed.
Other single substances however, have shown rising environmental concentration. This can be explained by the deployment of short-chain PFCs instead of the more alarming long-chain compounds.
